Part time Role Starting wage £9p/h increasing to £9.50 after 3 months

If you are an extremely hard working, trained and highly self-motivated person then this could be the career opportunity for you to join our team of Canine Happiness Officers.

Naturally you will have a great love of dogs and have a proven track record of working with dogs in either a professional, voluntary or personal capacity.
The working hours are Monday TO friday 1pm to 3.30pm but you will need to be flexible on this.

All walks are in the Leith area expanding to Newhailes. Ideally you need to be located nearby.

You will have your own transport which can safely transport the dogs from their homes to the walk and back.

Being a Dog Walker is a wonderful and unique job. It can be very rewarding and lots of fun. However, you must not think that it is easy.
You will be in charge of up to 6 dogs each time which can be very physical and testing, so you must be confident handling dogs.
You will need to be able to think on your feet in any given situation.

You will also be required to walk in ALL weathers from the typical never-ending rainy weeks to freezing cold to glorious sunshine.
It is vital you don’t mind getting dirty/muddy/sweaty/messy.

Requirements: –

  • An canine based qualification or experience caring for dogs.
  • A Disclosure Scotland – either you already have one or we will help you with an application.
  • Have a strong work ethic and the ability to work indepently.
  • An understanding of dog behaviour and willing to learn.
  • Believe in and use positive reinforcement.
  • Physically fit and happy to work in all weather conditions.
  • This is public facing role so you must have a polite manner and be approachable.
  • Have a full UK driving licence and own vehicle able to transport (sometimes muddy) dogs.
  • You need to be confident and have a logical approach to looking after animals.
  • You will be required to register with Edinburgh City Council as a professional dog walker.

Initially you will shadow another team member for a minimum of 2 weeks to get trained on the role.

This job would suit anyone with other part-time work commitments or you work from home and want to get of the house for a few hours a day.


This role is on a self-employed basis you will be responsible for your own national insurance and tax with HMRC.

For the right candidate there can be potential for expanding the role.
